Three-point correlation function in the quasilinear regime
نویسنده
چکیده
Using the second-order Eulerian perturbation theory (SEPT), we study the three-point correlation function in the quasilinear regime for the SCDM, LCDM and MDM models, with the interesting result that these three models have distinctive three-point correlation functions. We test this SEPT prediction using a large set of high-resolution N-body simulations. The N-body results show that the SEPT prediction for is not accurate even in the quasilinear regime (r < 10h 1Mpc), in contrast to previous N-body tests on the skewness. However, similar to the perturbation theory, our N-body results still predict a strong dependence of the three-point correlation on the triangle shape which is observable in the distribution of galaxies if the galaxies trace the distribution of the underlying mass

Modelling the Nonlinear Gravitational Clustering in the Expanding Universe
The gravitational clustering of collisionless particles in an expanding universe is modelled using some simple physical ideas. I show that it is indeed possible to understand the nonlinear clustering in terms of three well defined regimes: (1) linear regime (2) quasilinear regime which is dominated by scale-invariant radial infall and (3) nonlinear regime dominated by nonradial motions and merg...
متن کاملPair correlations and merger bias
We study analytically the possibility that mergers of haloes are more highly clustered than the general population of haloes of comparable masses. We begin by investigating predictions for merger bias within the extended Press-Schechter formalism and discuss the limitations and ambiguities of this approach. We then postulate that mergers occur whenever two objects form within a (small) fixed di...
متن کاملThe Three-Point Correlation Function in Cosmology
With the advent of high-quality surveys in cosmology the full three-point correlation function will be a valuable statistic for describing structure formation models. It contains information on cosmological parameters and detailed halo properties that cannot be extracted from the two-point correlation function. We use the halo clustering model to analytically calculate the three-point correlati...

The dynamical evolution of collisionless particles in an expanding background is described. After discussing qualitatively the key features, the gravitational clustering of collisionless particles in an expanding universe is modelled using some simple physical ideas. I show that it is indeed possible to understand the nonlinear clustering in terms of three well defined regimes: (1) linear regim...
